Marriage License
REQUIREMENTS
* All applicants for a marriage license MUST be at least 16 years old. Georgia law does not permit minors under the age of 16 to obtain a marriage license. If the age is 16 or 17 years old, the applicant must have parental consent. BOTH Parents must give consent in person by appearing in court with photo identification.
* Application should be completed Online BEFORE appointment is scheduled with the Probate office at: www.georgiaprobaterecords.com
* To complete the marriage license process the couple MUST come together between the hours of 8am-11:30am and 1pm-4:30pm|Mon.-Fri. no more than 30 days before date of marriage. (Appointments are recommended. Walk ins are accepted but you may experience longer wait times to process your information; about 30 to 40 min.)
* Must provide a Government issued ID such as Military, driver’s license, Georgia ID, or passport with your current correct address on it. Proof of age can be provided by a birth certificate. -No work IDs Will be accepted.
* If either party has been divorced, applicants must bring in a signed copy of the divorce decree for all marriages dissolved by divorce.
* Cash, Money Order, Cashier's Check, and Credit/Debit Cards are all acceptable forms of payment.
* Counseling form MUST be original signature and MUST be notarized.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR PREMARITAL COUNSELING
In order to qualify for the reduced fee, the premarital education program: must have been completed within 12 months prior to the date of the application; must have been taken by the couple together; must have included not less than six (6) hours of instruction involving marital issues, which may include but are not limited to conflict management, communication skills, financial responsibilities, child and parenting responsibilities and extended family role; and must have been provided by (1) a professional counselor, social worker, or marriage and family therapist licensed in Georgia, (2) a psychiatrist licensed in Georgia, (3) a psychologist license in Georgia, or (4) an active member of the Clergy when in the course of his or her service as clergy or his or her designee, provided the designee is trained and skilled in premarital education.
